503: Planning for the Next Generation: A School Board Perspective

October 12, 2018

11:00am - 12:00pm

Fishbowl Discussion

School boards are some of the most important landowners in Ontario communities, with large sites that tend to be community hubs of activity. School sites also play an important role in contributing to the character and transportation patterns of a neighborhood. But how can school boards innovate with their limited ministry funding and intense public scrutiny? How are they adapting to changing expectations and realities? This session explores initiatives by the Conseil des écoles publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario (French Public School Board of Eastern Ontario),.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand that school boards are potential allies in achieving community resiliency
  • Understand the built environment’s role in environmental, community and resiliency education
  • Gain knowledge about the ways different levels of government, agencies and the private sector work together to improve community resiliency
