606: Laurentian University – a Campus Master Plan

October 12, 2018

1:00pm - 3:00pm

Session Room: 1:00-2:00, Walking Tour: 2:00pm - 3:00pm

The Laurentian University campus has an extraordinary history—demonstrating leadership at every step. Today, it continues to reinvent itself. By engaging extensively with internal and external community members, a new vision for the campus was crafted to enhance the student experience—creating a heart, prioritizing walking, and increasing the places and systems for social wellbeing. The environment played an important role in determining that development should be as compact as possible to respond to the cold climate and preserve natural assets, including native forests, the lakeshore, and special geology of rock outcroppings.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the context and setting of Laurentian University
  • Gain knowledge of best practices in university campus planning, including extensive engagement and vision-driven approaches
  • Gain knowledge of the unique environment of the Sudbury Basin, and how this offers opportunities for leadership and pedagogy
