#2GETHER2022
Facing change and guiding Ontario into the next quarter century
My name is Karennenha:wi (She Carries the Song) Nicole Storms. I am Kanienkeha:ka, Turtle Clan and a member of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte (MBQ) Band. I reside on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. I am also the Environmental Services Coordinator for the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte Band Administration. As a Kanienkeha:ka woman, band member, mother of 2 beautiful daughters, sister to 8 brothers and 1 sister, and Auntie to 19 nieces and nephews; I exercise my responsibilities and rights for the respect for and protection of Akenihsten’ha Yohwentsya:ke (Our Mother the Earth), our people and all living things – for generations ahead. I feel I am connected to the land and waters physically, mentally and spiritually. On my free time, I enjoy being on or near the water, exploring and photographing plants, animals and the natural world during the summer months. I enjoy listening to and collecting stories about our people and history; and, researching historical documents while documenting our family tree. Adapting – Resilience – is what we do best.
