307 - Indigenous Rights, Land and the Future of Planning in Ontario (continued)

2 Hour Session

This intensive 2-hour session will provide an essential primer for planners in the legal and constitutional frameworks that have shaped post contact Indigenous histories in Ontario and how Indigenous land rights will reshape the future of planning in Ontario. The session will provide an overview of Indigenous traditional laws, Treaties and the Constitution’s Section 35 protected rights of Indigenous Nations to land. Participants will learn of Ontario specific developments including the Algonquin land claim; the Provincial Policy Statement 2020 which mandates consultation with Indigenous communities in matters of planning; and specific examples of planning with Indigenous Nations.
