405 - Affordable housing models for changing demographics

With a growing seniors population and an increasing numbers of newcomers choosing to make Ontario their new home, planning housing for our changing demographics is a challenge all municipalities face across the province. Smaller communities face additional challenges: youth and younger adults leaving for jobs/education, limited housing for employees, and empty nesters buying up rural properties. All of this can lead to a lack of affordable housing options.
 
While there is no one-size-fits-all solution, planners need to look at a combination of approaches to determine what works best for their situation. This session features strategies and non-traditional housing options communities across the country are using to address similar housing challenges, as well as an interactive session where planners can share their learnings with other attendees.
