Key Researcher COVID 19 Success Stories , University of Waterloo

Dr. Heather Hall is an Assistant Professor and the Academic Director of the Master of Economic Development and Innovation Program at the University of Waterloo. She holds a PhD in Geography from Queen's University (Canada), an MA in Planning from the University of Waterloo, and a BA in Geography from Laurentian University (Canada). Heather grew up in Northern Ontario and has a professional and personal interest in researching issues that are important to the North, including: the impacts of new technologies and the future of work; the community impacts of mobile work and large-scale industrial projects; and innovation and economic development policy, planning and practice. Her work has been recognized nationally and internationally, and has informed government policy in Canada, Northern Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Sweden. She is the co-author of Planning Canadian Regions, Second Edition and she is currently co-leading a project in partnership with the Canadian Rural Revitalization Foundation to understand the impacts of COVID-19 on rural communities. Heather is also the Chair of the Research Advisory Board for the Northern Policy Institute and she is a member of the Canadian Rural Revitalization Foundation.
