Manager Service Coordination & Improvement, City of Kitchener

Margaret is the Manager of Service Coordination & Improvement for the Development Services Department at the City of Kitchener. Margaret earned her Masters and PhD in Civil Engineering at McMaster University where she was a member of the sustainable communities research group. She worked for nearly 3 years as a municipal planner for the City of London in the subdivisions and special projects and implementation (Official Plan and Zoning By-law amendment) sections and held various project management positions at the University of Guelph for 6 years prior to joining the City of Kitchener 3 years ago. Margaret’s focus since joining the City has been planning and delivering a multi-year development services review. In 2020, she received her Lean Green Belt certification as well as a certification in change management. It is no surprise that her professional interests include continuous improvement, process efficiency, and equipping staff to navigate change. Margaret loves the outdoors; particularly, digging in the dirt. For close to 6 months of the year, she volunteers with her family and friends at a community garden in Guelph, planting and tending to 1000+ square feet of garden plots for two local organizations that support women in crisis.
