Sonja Macdonald is co-founder and Principal with Civicplan. She brings over 20 years of experience to her role as a lead designer and manager of award winning community planning and engagement projects. Sonja specializes in policy development and research, public engagement and facilitation, strategic communication and data analysis. She takes a strategic and targeted approach to the projects she manages blending mixed research methods with various forms of public engagement to achieve effective and measurable outcomes that engage residents in shaping their communities. Sonja’s work reaches across various subject areas from infrastructure investment, alternative transportation planning, cultural and creative industries, community services and public health, to neighbourhood and district planning.
Sonja is committed to life-long learning in academic and professional settings. She holds two Bachelor’s degrees, a Master’s degree, and is working on her PhD. Additionally, she is furthering her professional training as a member of the IAP2 Canada.
