This session will explore the complex and collaborative relationships between planners and professionals from other disciplines. A case study format will illustrate the results of a process that challenged conventional practices, overcame political and technical issues and culminated in the development of a new master plan for the Burlington Beach Regional Waterfront Park, a vibrant and engaging four-season public space. The master plan sets new standards for waterfront public open spaces and the restoration and management of urban natural areas. It illustrates the importance of good planning and design of public spaces, the balancing of diverse community perspectives in a downtown urban context and the celebration of the First Nation communities.
