203: Preserving What You Have: Protecting Rental Housing for the Future

October 11, 2018

1:00pm - 1:30pm

Providing a range and mix of housing types is a cornerstone policy direction set out by the Province of Ontario, and is an essential ingredient for the achievement of complete communities.  In order for communities to be resilient, a diversity of housing tenure is required. Rental housing stock provides an important alternative for those who cannot afford to, or who choose not to, own their dwelling unit.  As our municipalities continue to evolve, protecting current and future residents’ choice of tenure will remain an important component to ultimately building a successful city. This session will explore how different Ontario municipalities are protecting and preserving their rental housing stock when development pressures arise.

Learning Objectives:

  • Analyze policy direction related to housing as set out in Provincial documents
  • Gain knowledge about rental housing policies in various municipalities
  • Share ideas of best practices and lessons learned
