The Greater Toronto Hamilton Area is one of the most populous regions in all of the North America. Encompassing nearly a third of Canada’s annual immigration intake, this region is only slated to grow more. The 2017 Growth Plan for the region projects population increases 10,130,000 people and 4,820,000 jobs for the year 2041. This significant growth from current populations is placing immense burdens on existing hard and soft infrastructure, particularly places to live and work. This presentation provides a graphically interpreted explanation of how the polycentric Growth Plan with Urban Growth Centres can accommodate this incoming population growth. The area analyzed is one of the Growth Centres intersected by multiple forms of higher order transit and natural features in the Regional Centre of the Town of Richmond Hill. The methodology presented uses a calculated method of applying policy, regulations and design to showcase conformity with established intensification standards to facilitate development shaped to help improve the quality of life for current and future citizens.
