As communities intensify, new development must accommodate family structures of various size to create complete and livable communities. Hear about the City of Toronto’s draft guidelines to direct how new development can better function for larger households at three scales: the unit, the building and the neighbourhood. The practical, tangible and measurable guidelines recognise the ways that families with children use the built environment, and what the evolving definition of “home” is. Using innovating consultation approaches, a consultant team with expertise in planning, architecture, landscape architecture, marketing, and market analysis developed the guidelines now being piloted by the City.
