508: Field Ambassadors on the Road to Building Community Resilience

October 12, 2018

11:00am - 12:00pm

Aging infrastructure is a reality facing many municipalities. However, construction is messy and can result in disturbances that range from nuisance to removal of the necessities of everyday life. The Field Ambassadors for the City of Toronto’s Watermain Rehabilitation Program have developed a comprehensive approach for proactive, responsive and accessible community outreach and communication in support of the rehabilitation of the city’s watermains. The field ambassadors are planners who will share their experiences.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand that proactive engagement can serve as a risk management technique that builds awareness, reduces the escalation of complaints, and establishes open lines of communication that are critical to building respect
  • Understand that each community has its own unique characteristics and needs, which must be taken into consideration during the planning and implementation of capital infrastructure programs
  • Gain knowledge about how to leverage technology to develop solutions to complex problems
