“Give your car a break! Bike, Walk, Rollerblade!” Presenting lessons learned from the Let Your Green Show social media marketing campaign.

October 06, 2015

3:35pm-3:50pm

This session will highlight the key challenges associated with using social media as an engagement tool, including resources and logistics. The discussion will focus on the Let Your Green Show social media campaign, a collaborative effort among Peel Region, the cities of Brampton and Mississauga, the Town of Caledon, Credit Valley Conservation and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority. Its aim is to raise awareness on climate change issues and engage residents in activities to reduce their impact on the environment.

The campaign started in 2012 in response to an action in the Regional Council adopted Peel Climate Change Strategy. In the third and final year of the campaign, a decision was made to use social media. The selection of social media channels (e.g., Twitter and Facebook), their reach and potential effectiveness, target audience selection and engagement tactics (e.g., contest) will be discussed.
