Pedestrian Wind Requirements

October 07, 2015

2:15pm-3:15pm

This session will provide information on how wind and microclimate conditions affect the design and performance of buildings and structures. It will also explore the design features and other measures that can be implemented to improve wind and microclimate conditions to ensure a safe and positive design. A range of wind and microclimate control features will be presented. Discussion will include requirements for pedestrian wind studies in Ontario cities, wind comfort and other safety criteria, and analysis of local meteorological data as well as techniques such as wind tunnel testing and computer simulations.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify the fundamentals of wind flows around buildings
  • Understand typical wind climate control features and their effectiveness
  • Learn about analysis techniques including wind tunnel testing and computer simulations
