As part of a class project for a Rural Planning and Development course led by Wayne Caldwell at the University of Guelph, three students under the direction of Monica Walker-Bolton, Planner with Huron County Planning & Development, set off to create a best practices guide for municipalities embarking on the creation of a Community Improvement Plan. Recognizing that buy-in from both municipalities and the public are critical for successful implementation of a CIP, a plain language tool kit is necessary to help educate key stakeholders. Lessons learned will be presented based on interviews with planners and economic development professionals from Huron County and beyond.
