Burying the hatchet: Improving council-planner relations

October 08, 2015

2:25pm - 2:40 pm

The council-planner rapport is one of the most crucial working relationships in the planning profession. Through case studies from 4 different municipalities, this session will teach participants about the different procedures that could convince councillors to make decisions in support of good planning. This presentation will highlight the responses from 14 councillors, staff and private sector planners. Based on the answers to the interview's qualitative questions, the findings will be communicated as consolidated themes. This presentation will include a short discussion on the planner's role as an educator/champion and the feasibility of this role in Council.

*Please note that the identities of all study respondents will be kept anonymous.
