Municipal Government 101

October 08, 2015

1:45pm-4:00pm

Staff from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing will host this interactive session to provide an overview of how local government works in Ontario using hands on examples.  The session will cover topics like municipal decision-making, the role of council and staff, and the municipal accountability and transparency framework.  Participants will gain insights on how to navigate the municipal world.  Staff from the Town of Oakville will use the second half of the session to showcase Oakville's Climate Change Strategy as an example of an integrated, cross-government initiative.  The development of the strategy, the actions set out within, and implementation plan provide an excellent case study on the practical application of the learnings from the first part of the session.  This session is geared to new private sector planners and students.
