MW14: Liberty Thrillage: Working Collaboratively to Transform one of Toronto’s Former Industrial Areas into a Complete Mixed Use Community

October 08, 2015

1:45pm - 5:00pm

Pre- Registration Required *Workshop is currently sold out*

This mobile workshop in Liberty Village will explore its transformation from a primarily industrial community to one with a broad mix of residential, commercial and employment uses. Participants will hear about current initiatives such as new street connections, pedestrian and cycle bridges, new parkspace, consideration of a Heritage Conservation District, Metrolinx's rail expansion and electrification, and community benefits achieved though new office, commercial and residential redevelopment.

Liberty Village, historically a manufacturing district west of Toronto’s Downtown core, has undergone rapid redevelopment in recent years. The east side of LV has been greatly transformed into a residential and mixed-use community, while the west side has seen employment growth through the adaptive reuse of existing heritage resources and new low-rise office development opportunities.
