Planning Act Section 37 Community Benefits

This session will explore the main elements of section 37, the community benefits protocol established by Burlington and the challenges encountered.
 
Public and political perception varies, especially when the benefit is simply a cash payment into a reserve fund for some larger project or facility. While some developers welcome section 37 contributions, others criticize them as an unauthorized development tax that funds expensive pet projects for officials who are unable to obtain funding through other sources such as taxes and fees.
