Carlo Bonanni is a Registered Professional Planner with extensive experience in municipal land use planning with particular emphasis on downtown and waterfront development. Carlo has worked at both the municipal and provincial levels of government and has been involved in several key large scale and transformative redevelopment plans throughout the City of Toronto.
 
As Vice President, Land & Development Planning, Carlo is responsible for providing strategic planning advice and land use due diligence with respect to prospective BUILD TORONTO development proposals. Carlo is also responsible for taking development applications through the municipal land use approvals process, from complete application submission, through to the final approvals phase as well as working closely with the City of Toronto Real Estate Services on identifying potential properties for BUILD TORONTO’s portfolio.
 
Prior to his appointment at BUILD TORONTO, Carlo was Manager of Planning Services for the Toronto Economic Development Corporation (TEDCO), where he was an instrumental member of the project team that realized the planning, development and construction of the catalytic and award winning Corus Quay Building in the City’s East Bayfront Precinct. Carlo also worked at the Toronto 2015 World Expo Corporation as Project Manager where he was primarily responsible for site planning and design matters as part of a team that was preparing the official bid to locate the 2015 World Expo in the Port Lands. Carlo also spent a number of years working in a senior planner position with the City of Toronto Planning Department.
Today Carlo also teaches a Planning Studio course at Ryerson University an is a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and Ontario Professiona Planners Institute. He received his Bachelor of Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo and his Masters of Environmental Studies from York University.
