Curry’s focus for almost 35 years has been on improving the effectiveness of municipal government – both its administrative and political capacity and the intersect between the two. He has led initiatives with the Ontario government, the Region of Peel, the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks and Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO) and the Municipality of Clarington where he is the Corporate Initiatives Officer. He helped develop the overall policy framework for: municipal powers for Ontario municipalities, the role of Council and the CAO, addressing key labour relations issues in large municipal restructurings and the legislative structure for county restructurings. He also has deep expertise in service review and improvement that took him to South Africa. He has represented the Region of Peel in resolving a significant wait time problem for residents arriving by ambulance at Peel hospitals, AMCTO in gaining the Ontario government’s commitment to address the collection of $1Billion in unpaid POA fines and the Municipality of Clarington in working with the nuclear industry and its supply chain to gain the Province’s go ahead with the $10 Billion refurbishment of the Darlington Nuclear facility. In Clarington, he’s currently working with neighbouring municipalities, the College, University and businesses on the extension of GO Train service to Bowmanvile. In generating success on these projects he worked closely with elected and appointed people and gained deep insights into how to make the relationship between the two work effectively. He is a Director with the Clarington Board of Trade, serves on the Joint Compliance Audit Committee for the Townships of Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge and created and teaches the municipal-provincial relations course for AMCTO. Curry holds an MPA from Western University, the Certified Municipal Officer designation, a Certificate in Not-For-Profit Governance and is completing a Certificate in Economic Development.
