Director, Ministry of Energy

Jennifer Block has 10 years of experience with the Ontario Public Service, with almost half of this time spent at the Ministry of Energy. Since August 2011, Jennifer has held the position of Director at the Ministry of Energy, leading the Partnerships and Strategic Initiatives Branch and most currently the Conservation Programs and Partnerships Branch. Jennifer has been responsible for a range of programs and initiatives including the Municipal Energy Plan Program and engaging Ontario’s Broader Public Sector to better understand how and where they use energy and to develop plans to reduce their energy consumption. She also led the successful implementation of the Green Energy Investment Agreement – a $10.5 billion renewable energy initiative between the government and Samsung. In addition, Jennifer has led her teams on a number of key policy and program initiatives including: building partnerships with aboriginal communities and encouraging aboriginal participation in energy projects and leading the government policy coordination for several inter-jurisdictional trade disputes involving energy issues. Prior to joining the Ministry of Energy, Jennifer held positions at the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and the Ministry of Education. Jennifer has undergraduate and graduate degrees from York University, Queen’s University and Ryerson University.
