Jonathan is currently completing a Master of Science in Planning at the University of Toronto. Since joining the Department of Geography and Planning at the University, Jonathan’s research has focused on issues of growth and growth management in the Greater Toronto Area. His research has paid particular attention to recent land use policies and changes in the outer communities of the GTA. Living and working in the GTA community of Milton, Jonathan witnessed the rapid growth and development of one of Canada’s fastest growing communities. The unique social, economic, and political planning issues that arose from its growth, sparked his interest in the field of planning and specifically planning for growth in the GTA. Jonathan recently had the opportunity to work with the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation, and contribute to their work developing responses to the Ontario Provincial Governments discussion of the coordinated review of the Greenbelt Plan, Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Plan, and Niagara Escarpment Plan. Jonathan has also completed an internship with Starbucks Coffee Canada, working within the company’s Store Development division. Jonathan assisted in analyzing the trade area characteristics of existing store locations in Eastern Canada, to inform the company’s decision-making process for new real estate opportunities.
