With over 30 years in policy planning, including most of the last decade planning for intensification in three innovative and leading edge municipalities – Guelph, Newmarket and Markham, Marion has had experience developing as well as implementing community energy and sustainability policies. In Guelph, , in her role as Manager of Policy Planning and Urban Design , Marion was part of the interdepartmental team responsible for the development of one of Ontario’s first Community Energy Plans, along with the development of the City’s Comprehensive Official Plan. In Newmarket, Marion was responsible for the development of Newmarket’s Urban Growth Centre Secondary Plan which plans for the sustainable intensification along the Yonge Street and Davis Drive corridors. In addition to ensuring the policy framework was in place for energy sustainability, Marion was also responsible for shepherding the development applications within these corridors through the planning process. Marion has recently joined the City of Markham as Manager of Intensification and Secondary Plans and leads the development of key Secondary Plans and is part of the interdisciplinary team that has initiated the development of Markham’s Community Energy Plan. Marion will address the challenges of implementing Community Energy and sustainable energy through Official Plan policy.
