Sue Heffernan is a PhD candidate and Sessional Professor at Laurentian University in Sudbury. She graduated from University of Waterloo with a Master of Arts in Regional Planning and Resource Development and then moved to northwestern Ontario to work as a District Land Use Planner for Ministry of Natural Resources. Sue then worked for Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing in North Bay and Sudbury for 27 years, traveling throughout Northeastern Ontario to work with Councils and staff of small municipalities. Each year Sue teaches the Geography of Northern Canada to third year students at Laurentian University. Sue welcomed other planners to the north in 1996 when she chaired the annual O.P.P.I. Conference in Sudbury. She continues to welcome planners to the north whenever possible and she loves to tell people about traveling to Ontario's most northern municipality --Moosonee--a place that is two plane flights from Toronto (or one flight, one bus and a train ride!).
