Facing change and guiding Ontario into the next quarter century
As Head, Major Projects with CreateTO, the City of Toronto’s real estate agency, Michael Whelan leads the development of large, complex, mixed-use, office, residential, industrial and City Building projects within the agency’s portfolio. Michael is a senior real estate executive with more than 30 years of experience throughout North America and has been involved in all aspects of real estate, including construction, development, operations, leasing, asset management and investments. Prior to his current role, Michael was the Managing Director of the Delan Group Inc., a real estate consulting organization serving top tier real estate companies across Canada. Throughout his career he worked with The Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited, where, as Senior Vice President, he was responsible for all aspects of the Greater Toronto Area Portfolio; with the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board, where he was the Head of the Canadian Real Estate Portfolio; and with CN Real Estate, where he played the leading role in the development of the Toronto Railways Lands. Michael is active on a number of outside boards and charities, and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering from Queen’s University.
