Business Strategy and Marketing Advisor, York Region Rapid Transit Corporation

Sabeen Makki is a Registered Professional Planner with 15 years of experience as a transportation and policy planner with various levels of government, including the Ministry of Transportation, City of Brampton, and the Regional Municipality of York. Most currently, Sabeen is using her business strategy and leadership skills as a Business Strategy and Marketing Advisor at York Region Rapid Transit Corporation. Prior to her roles in the public sector, she worked on environmental assessments and transportation projects at Aecom, formerly Totten Sims Hubicki.
 
Sabeen specializes in complex transportation and land use planning projects from project management, policy development, project implementation and stakeholder engagement. She has a strong skill set in developing and monitoring strategic planning initiatives, including business planning and corporate strategy development. She led the Region’s first ever Transportation Master Plan Advisory Task Force, a providing guidance on the development of transportation policies and network alternatives for the Master Plan Update. 
 
Sabeen earned her Bachelor of Environmental Studies with honours from the University of Waterloo in 2004 and is a member of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute and Canadian Institute of Planners, Canadian Institute of Transportation Engineers and Urban Land Institute. She volunteers her time as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors at Dr. Roz’s Healing Place, where she provides guidance, decisions and support on personnel issues, budgeting and fundraising where she has Chaired the Annual Gala. 
 
Sabeen resides in Stouffville, Ontario with her husband and two young children. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, interior design, event planning and painting.
