#2GETHER2022
As a municipal planner Janet pushed to include accessory apartments as a permitted use at a time when they were prohibited and she kept questioning how do we address affordable housing in our development application review, to the point that she was told to “just let it go”! Working with York Region to help build municipally owned affordable housing units had her questioning the conflicting messaging surrounding the need for affordable housing and some of the practices which make it difficult to achieve. Janet volunteers with Habitat for Humanity, May Court, and Canadian Federation of University Women in her community. Janet has studied at St. Mary’s University, College of Geographic Sciences, and York University. COVID-19 encouraged her to pursue another position, but her heart remains in affordable housing.
