Partner, Urban Strategies

Urban Designer Michel Trocmé, a Partner at Urban Strategies, is recognized for making high quality environments which highlight a distinctive sense of place and foster a strong sense of community. Collaboratively integrating market, transportation, landscape and architectural considerations, he develops visionary yet practical and implementable solutions which create value for his clients. His twenty-five years of experience in Canada, the US, Europe and Asia, encompass diverse project types including urban districts, waterfronts, campuses, new communities and urban regeneration.
 
His master plan for Toronto Community Housing to revitalize the 18-acre social housing complex Alexandra Park in downtown Toronto aims to establish a new vision for the community, with a variety of housing types, land uses with improved accessibility to green space and community services. He is currently leading the master planning of the University of Toronto’s Downtown campus. Further afield, he is master planning of the Surrey Centre in British Columbia, and has just won the international competition for master planning Shenshan, a new city of 1.6 million residents and 0.5 million jobs east of China’s Pearl River Delta.
 
Michel regularly serves on design juries and continues to serve as vice-chair of the Design Review Committee in Markham ON, He has taught urban design studios at the Harvard Design School, The University of Toronto and York University. He serves on the board of ULI’s Place Making Council and served as a director of Artscape, Canada’s leading practitioner in multi-tenant space development for the arts and culture sector, which is recognized as an international leader in the fields of culture-led regeneration and city-building through the arts.
