In 2014 the Provincial Policy Statement was updated to include a number of key changes including the addition of several references to Aboriginal peoples. But how does this translate into a planner’s daily work? This session will comprise a panel discussion among several members of the Aboriginal Consultation Initiative, an Indigenous-non-Indigenous collaborative network of academics and practitioners seeking to address the intersection of planning and Aboriginal and Treaty rights. The discussion will focus on the importance of Indigenous visibility in public space and will highlight current examples of designing/altering public spaces so that the Indigenous presence is made visible.
