MW4: Toronto’s Cabbagetown Heritage Conservation District

October 06, 2015

10:15am - 1:00pm

Additional Fee: $15.00 - *Workshop is currently sold out*

This mobile workshop offers a walking tour through Cabbagetown. Stops will feature examples of best practice in residential heritage conservation projects. Case studies will include successful Toronto Heritage Grant Program projects, examples of residential additions guided by the guidelines, and an example of modern in-fill construction that meets the design guidelines for new buildings.

Recognized for its intact Victorian streetscapes and strong sense of community pride and identity, Cabbagetown was one of the first Heritage Conservation Districts designated by the amalgamated City of Toronto under Part V of the Ontario Heritage Act. A unique Toronto neighbourhood, the rows of 19th century houses appear largely as they have for the last 100 years. However, as a desirable downtown neighbourhood, this district generates a significant amount of pressure as new property owners seek to modernize and expand.
