Engaging Youth in the Planning Process: Insights, Strategies & Design

As part of The City of Toronto’s Planning Division’s Growing Conversations initiative, the City hired facilitators from Urban Strategies, Swehurn Consulting and Maximum City to support development of a better youth engagement strategy for the city. The group developed a Youth Engagement Research Team comprised of individuals aged 16-30 from across the city. The research will feed back into the Planning Division’s larger Engagement Strategy for 2015. Two of these researchers, Mojan Jianfar and Jo Flatt used a variety of traditional and creative methods to engage youth. In this session, the researchers will share the approach they took, the findings of their research and support delegates to develop creative and innovative strategies to better engage youth in planning and urban affairs.
