Innovative Projects to Advance Growth Planning

October 07, 2015

2:15pm-3:15pm

Since 2013, Ontario’s Places to Grow Implementation Fund (P2GIF) has supported innovative growth planning research and outreach projects.  This session will showcase three projects funded by the P2GIF that build awareness and understanding of growth planning. Following the panel presentations, a moderated discussion will focus on ways that the projects’ methods and research support compact, transit-supportive, resilient communities.

  • No. 9 Contemporary Arts and the Environment worked with educators and urban planners, to lead a group of grade 7 students in designing a sustainable neighbourhood.
  • Pembina Institute conducted analysis of neighbourhoods across the Greater Golden Horseshoe based on housing costs, density and transit access.
  • For University of Toronto, Zack Taylor interviewed experts from the development, planning, social and environmental policy fields about regional resilience and future growth planning priorities.
