Conference 2015

Small Medium Large City of Toronto Urban Design Guidelines

October 08, 2015

1:45pm-2:45pm

This session will highlight the City of Toronto guidelines: "Townhouse and Low-rise Apartment Guidelines", "Avenue's and Mid-rise Performance Standards", and "Tall Buildings Guidelines". The presentation will focus on guidelines which are intended to achieve the appropriate design of low, mid and tall multi-unit buildings, which represent the majority of new construction in the city.

City staff is currently:

  • Creating the Townhouse and Low-rise Apartment Guidelines to address a range of building typologies from townhouses through to more intense forms of low-rise housing - stacked and back to back and low-rise apartments which share many similar issues regarding amenity, public realm, built form and design.
  • Updating the Avenue's and Mid-rise Building Study and reviewing the performance standards.
  • Adding new sections to the Tall Buildings Guidelines that will provide guidance for super-tall towers (currently defined as above 150 metres) as well as other variations such as additions to existing slab buildings.
