Our presentation is based on a five-part report, prepared by the students of Dr. Luisa Sotomayor’s Perspectives in Planning course, which examined the challenges posed by evolving uses and gentrification along Geary Avenue, an employment neighbourhood in Ward 9 – Davenport. We intend to present our findings and recommendations on two parts of the report: Part 1: Housing Development and Built Form identifies the need to preserve affordability and diversity of types and tenure of housing against zoning strategies and built form considerations for future commercial growth and development and residential intensification along Geary Ave. and within the surrounding neighbourhoods. Part 2: Streets and Public Realm identifies opportunities to improve street life and accessibility with a focus on traffic calming, parking, and accommodating multi-modal transportation infrastructure.
