This session will highlight the challenges encountered and the governance adjustments that have been made to bring about an aligned and effective implementation of the Peel Climate Change Strategy among its partners. This is possibly one of the first examples in Canada of a regional municipality collaborating with its area municipalities and conservation authorities for local action on climate change. There is increasing evidence that municipal infrastructure and services are being more frequently impacted by extreme weather related events commonly associated with climate change. These events can pose major risks to municipal governments, which may result in loss of lives, costly infrastructure repairs or replacement and lawsuits
