Community Building through Strategic Infill and Living Lanes

October 08, 2015

11:30am-11:45am

This session will explore models of infill and laneway design as a means of addressing the evolving needs of Canadian cities and focusing on two recent case studies in Toronto and Saskatoon.

The University of Toronto Huron-Sussex Neighbourhood Plan reinvests in the neighbourhood’s economic, social and environmental well-being while protecting its heritage and extending the strength of its streets, parks and laneway system. The Huron-Sussex Plan received the 2014 OPPI Excellence in Planning Award under the research/new directions category.

The Saskatoon Neighbourhood Level Infill Development Strategy addresses challenges and opportunities for small scale infill development on residential lots within established neighbourhoods. The strategy ensures the preservation of distinctive development patterns and historic neighbourhood characteristics in the face of significant growth and ongoing development pressure.
