How to Hire and Manage Consultants

All levels of government use consultants and spend millions of dollars each year to obtain their services—yet too often the hiring process, relationship and/or product fails to meet the expectations of the client. Drawing on decades of experience, the presenters will provide concrete examples of what to do and what not to do to build a process and relationship that will result in a successful product. The discussion will address: framing the study goals and objectives; developing the terms of reference; dealing with the purchasing department; selecting the consultant; the contract; day-to-day management; and dealing with the unexpected. Presenters will focus on specific solutions to issues identified by participants.
