#2GETHER2022
Greenfield development is a reality in Ontario. The demand for expansion of urban areas outside of high-density urban centres and corridors is driven by the pursuit of spacious homes, good schools, community and recreation services and access to nature. New neighborhoods are being built while attempting to balance often conflicting goals of accommodating growth, environmental responsibility and climate change adaptation. These neighborhoods are planned today, will be built tomorrow and need to become low carbon when completed. This session brings together various interests and perspectives on a path to achieving a low carbon community, touch on the policy framework in place in York Region and the City of Markham, and will focus on Mattamy’s proposed community geothermal energy system in north Markham.
